Introduction
This is the blog of Shaun Hickox. It is not about anything in particular, just random thoughts that I have as I go along in life. Currently I am working as an English teacher for Shane Language School in Japan. So at the moment this blog will be full of the interesting and not so interesting thoughts of a foreigner struggling to comprehend the madness that is Japan.
Background
Half English, half Colombian, born and bred in High Wycombe, raised a Catholic if only to get into a Catholic school with a good reputation. This school was so good it led to me failing my 12 plus exam. This could have been due to the fact that they did not realise I was dyslexic. Years pass and I coast through secondary school. As a result of various good and bad choices regarding my school work and subjects I took, I eventually fell into a BSc Computing Course at Bournemouth University. Four years of fun, heartache, stress and growing up resulted in a slightly disappointing 2ii.
During my time at university I came to the realisation that the computing industry was not for me. The third year industrial placement that did not really renew my passion for the course (which my tutors insisted would happen). The forth year of the course was just a slog and I really just wanted the whole thing to end and get on with my life.
I had no idea quite what I wanted to do so I clocked on the idea of traveling the world and discovering myself or something. The easiest way to do this and still make money is to teach English, so here I am in Japan, doing just that.
I have yet to find myself……
Why do this website?
Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
Dr. Ian Malcolm
That quote from Jurassic Park just about sums it up. The main reason was to get to know how to create websites. Ever since I did my Graphic Products A Level I have had a compulsion to design things. GOOD web design looks like it could be quite challenging but fun at the same time. Doing this website will also allow me to keep a small amount of the skills I learnt at university up to date.
I then had to think of some content to put on the site. A blog was the first thing I thought of.
